Pot Culture
Songs about getting high through the decades

No matter the decade or the genre, when it comes to cannabis, popular culture is not shy about it. From Cab Calloway to Toby Keith, marijuana has inspired many great songs over the years. With a rise in the 1920's, songs about marijuana remained popular through the 1970's.
Then, with the election of Ronald Reagan and the"Just Say No" campaign... songs about pot, all but vanished. This is not surprising, given the public sentiment on recreational drug use in the 1980's. The most notable pot song, of the decade, would have to be The Toyes "Smoke Two Joints". Released in 1982 and covered again by Sublime in 1992, it remains a classic.
Then, along come the 90's, Bill Clinton didn't inhale and cannabis makes a comeback on the music scene. Again "pot culture", mirrors the public's changing views on cannabis use. It seems perhaps, that ..."everyone", is getting stoned.
