Maryland Senate Approves Marijuana Decriminalization Bill

Maryland - Following the defeat of a similar measure to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of cannabis last year, the Maryland Senate passed Senate Bill 364. It now moves to the House of Delegates, where previous attempts have failed.
The bi-partisan bill was passed overwhelmingly, with 36 of the 44 senators voting in favor of the it. Support in favor of decriminalizing cannabis has been growing in Maryland. A recent Public Policy Poll notes that 68% of Maryland voters support the decriminalization of cannabis laws.
Senate Bill 364 would decriminalize the possession of 10 grams of cannabis and impose a civil fine of $100. This applies to adults 18 and older.
